Background:

Craig Boslem has been involved with the design of log homes since 1999. Craig's first introduction to logs was as a boy scout with the Papanui Scouts back in the early 1970's as the Scout Den was all logs. Craig and his wife, Belinda, are active members with the Log Builders' Association of New Zealand and through this involvement they featured in the June 2005 edition of the Lifestyle Block magazine.


Design Brief:

Curio Design is based in Cromwell, Central Otago, New Zealand and designs custom log homes for clients both nationally and internationally.

It is our passion to get your dream log home onto paper, therefore by liaising closely with you, the client; we will work with your initial design sketches and ideas to provide computer designed construction drawings of your log home. With the help of current communication technologies it is much easier to liaise and transfer ideas over the World Wide Web, so basically you can be anywhere!

We realise that the planning stage of any project can be very stressful and it is our sincere intention to make our clients design process a positive experience.

We are more than happy to meet with you at the proposed dream log home building site to discuss building design and orientation to make the most out of the natural landscape.

Our initial draft will present to you in scale, the floor plans, site plan, a cross section and elevation views (which can be used for Resource Consent).

On approval of the draft copy, the final construction drawings, details and specification will be completed. Drawing sets will be made up for you, your log builder, building contractor and, of course, your local authority for building consent. These construction drawings will include the following:

Curio Design works with a registered structural engineer who provides a Producer Statement for your log home. A log home in New Zealand is an 'alternative' building method under the New Zealand Building Code and therefore needs the Producer Statement to support the building consent application.

We are happy to work in with your interior designer, lighting consultant or kitchen designer, as required.
